Chiropractic Care for Back and Neck Pain

Title transition3 original original
Back pain is your body’s way of alerting you to the fact something is wrong. Very commonly this pain originates from the nerve-rich joints in the back. The wear and tear of daily life places stress on our bodies, in most cases the body is able to adapt to this stress and we go on living none the wiser. However, over time the stresses of life build up and slowly diminish our body’s ability to adapt to the challenges of daily living.

Our bodies assume a protective stance as a result of this stress. Muscles contract around irritated areas, which can lock spinal joints and restrict motion, this in turn can produce inflammation or swelling and the net result is an irritated muscle, joint and most importantly nerve. As a short term solution to the overwhelming stress placed on the body, this is a positive thing. However when this stress response is persistent or becomes chronic in nature, it may lead to other consequences.

The inflammation in this region can lead to increased sensitivity of the nerves that supply the area, meaning less stimulus is needed to initiate pain signals up to the brain. In addition, the decreased motion in the spine produces a phenomenon known as dysafferentation in which the signals from the nerves in the region of restriction are not transmitted correctly to the brain, and there is also an increase in stimulation of pain nerve fibers.

Chiropractors excel at detecting these misalignment in the spine and applying the necessary chiropractic adjustments in order to remove them from your body. Once removed, your body is able to function optimally and do what it was designed to do, heal itself.
