What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is a high velocity (fast), low amplitude (gentle) thrust into the joint in order to correct its position and/or motion. This procedure has been proven to be remarkably safe when administered by a chiropractor. Often adjustments are accompanied by an audible “click” or “popping” sound. This sound is related to the release of gas from a joint and not related to bones coming into contact with each other. In some instances there is no sound released from the joint however an adjustment is still performed.
At the Family Chiropractic Centre we use a number of different techniques in order to deliver an adjustment and restore normal function to your spine. We cater our care to each individual person so that we can achieve the best results in the shortest amount of time.
Research proves it works
The Manga Report, an extensive independent report commissioned by the Ministry of Health (Ontario) in 1993, clearly showed the superiority of chiropractic care over all other forms of health care for low back pain, and recommended a shift in health care policy to encourage preferential use of chiropractic services for most patients with low back pain.
High satisfaction rate
The Manga Report also reported that in comparable patient groups, patients were far more satisfied with Chiropractic care than medical care. A 1992 study further determined that patients generally considered Chiropractors to be more attentive and caring, more accessible, convenient and available, much less reliant on drug therapy, and less likely to create new problems or make existing problems worse.
Is Chiropractic safe?
A review of the most recent scientific literature shows Chiropractic to be far safer than medical treatment (drugs or surgery) for the same conditions which causes someone to seek Chiropractic care.
How do I see a chiropractor?
It’s simple. Because Chiropractors are primary health care providers, you do not need a referral to receive treatment. Therefore, you can make an appointment directly with a Chiropractor.
Is chiropractic covered by my Provincial Health Plan, or my extended health care plan?
O.H.I.P. does not cover Chiropractic care. If you have extended health insurance, your plan may cover all or part of the Chiropractic care. Check your plan for details.
Who should see a chiropractor?
Everyone. While Chiropractic is best known for its treatment of back pain, neck pain, and headaches, everyone, whether they have symptoms or not, should be checked for subluxations, or misalignment of their spine. A spine with subluxations is not a healthy spine, just as a tooth with a cavity is not a healthy tooth, whether or not it hurts.
Consider these statistics:
• 80% of the North American population will experience back pain at some point in their life.
• At any one time, between 4.5% and 7% of the Canadian population is experiencing back pain.
• If you have had back pain once, you are 3-5 times more likely to get it again.
• Only 25% of patients under medical care for back pain have recovered completely after 12 months
• Patient satisfaction with Chiropractors is high.
• Scientific reports prove Chiropractic care is the most effective treatment for back pain.
• Medical doctors are finally starting to recognize and believe things Chiropractors have been saying for over 100 years.
